GENEROUSLY CARE

How Do We Care For Our Schools ?

At Compass we strive to be the hands and feet of Christ by meeting our schools’ most basic needs.  We make extraordinary efforts to show His love to others by finding practical ways to serve generously.

“For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God has prepared in advance for us to do.” -  Ephesians 2:10

“Let your light shine before others that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” - Matthew 5:16

Steps to Serving in Your School:

1) Meet as a team - Bring together your team (family, prayer group, small group, church leadership, etc) to determine resources you have to contribute to this project (budget, time, manpower). Spend time in prayer that God would use this effort to show the love of Christ within your school and would meet important needs.

2) Approach school leadership - Set up a meeting with your principal, express your gratitude for all that they do, and let them know you are interested in meeting a need within the school. Although anyone can serve within the schools, it is ideal if these earlier meetings include those who attend the school.  These are great opportunities to build important relationships. Work together with leadership to identify options. See ideas below. Make sure that any effort you start is one you can complete well.

3) Serve with JOY - Determine a project that is a good fit for your school and your team, set a date and serve with joy!

Larger Service Efforts:

  • > These can include student needs like school supplies and backpacks, or classroom needs like tissues, pencils or hand sanitizer. These are great opportunities for a church-wide supply drive in the fall before school starts.

    > Often our schools have needs within their buildings or on their property that are outside of the budget. This is a perfect opportunity for Christians to step in to offer our help. These can include projects like painting, cleaning, landscaping, organizing, improving the teachers’ lounges or office spaces, or helping teachers set up or take down their classrooms.

  • Utilize church resources to write thank you cards and/or give small gifts (coffee or Amazon gift cards, etc) to the teachers and staff.

  • > Operation Coffee and Donuts” - bring coffee and donuts in the morning before school. Make signs expressing your gratitude for all they do!

    > Staff Gratitude Lunch - Depending on your budget, consider providing a staff gratitude lunch sponsored by your church or small group. Often restaurants are willing to partner with you to make this more affordable.

Smaller Impactful Efforts:

There are many smaller, thoughtful gestures to bless those God has brought into your life within your school.  Here are just a few:

  • Ask them how you can be praying for them.

  • Bring them a meal.

  • Thank them for all they do.

  • Give positive feedback about them to their administrator.

  • Offer to help in creative and meaningful ways.

  • Extend patience and grace

An important note:  As you consider ways to CARE or serve within your school, it is important that these efforts are delivered “no strings attached.”  We are serving to show we love them, care about their needs, and want to help.
