Happy Spring to our Compass Family!
Lots going on in the Compass world!
- GOD'S NOT DEAD MOVIE NIGHT
122 Compass teachers and parents filled a theater at Eden Prairie Center Thursday night for a free viewing of God's Not Dead 2. In the movie, a Christian high school teacher is asked an honest question about Jesus in a public-school setting, and her reasoned response lands her in big trouble. As the principal and superintendent join forces with a zealous civil liberties group, an epic court case ensues. The battle is filled with great information about our freedoms and the historical validity of Jesus. This movie inspired many of us there to be more bold in our faith and to never hesitate to the say the name "Jesus.". Following the movie, Clint Elliott, attorney with Alliance Defending Freedom, responded to the film and held an hour long Q&A time. What a powerful time! Although the movie is just that, a movie, it sparked an important conversation about our religious liberties as Christians in the public schools. There was great discussion and a great sense of community as many shared challenges and victories in their journeys. Thanks to Pure Flix and all who made this movie possible! Also, thanks to Clint Elliott for his expertise and our wonderful parents, educators and students who took a night out of their schedule to have this important conversation. Another reminder that... GOD's NOT DEAD!! http://godsnotdeadthemovie.com/ A must-see!!
- MY STORY
Several "My Story" events recently took place in three area schools – Chaska, Chanhassen and Minnetonka. "My Story" events are a culmination of students Living The CAUSE on their public school campuses. These student-led efforts, held at local high schools, center on personal testimonies of lives transformed by the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Students testimonies, powerful music, comedy, professional athletes, and drama make up these life changing evenings. Over the last two months these efforts have gathered hundreds of students and many gave their lives to Christ as a result. Pray for these students striving to live out their faith in school and making an impact for Christ. Stay tuned for more My Story events coming up in local schools in May!
- GOOD NEWS CLUBS
Good News Clubs are a ministry of Child Evangelism Fellowship and are after school bible studies held in K-6 classrooms led by parents and teachers. These groups are being held in schools across the nation as well as many here locally. One area school has 70 students who come weekly to study God's Word after school with their friends! We love that this program offers students the opportunity to not check their faith at their public school door but, rather, to make it a part of their school experience. They can also invite their friends! Are you feeling God tugging at your heart to start a Good News Club in your elementary school? If so, contact Compass at email@example.com. CEF holds training sessions on a regular basis and we can get you connected to learn more about how to get involved! - GRANDPARENT LEGACY CONFERENCE – MAY 9-10
Grandparents have incredible influence and a biblical mandate to disciple the next generation. Yet scores of grandparents have bought into the cultural message of non-interference, family autonomy, and the pursuit of pleasure. The result: minimal impact on the faith of adult children and grandchildren. This conference, held at Grace Church in Eden Prairie, is to encourage grandparents to pass on their faith to future generations. It's also for pastors and church leaders who want to learn how to encourage grandparents. For more information go to http://www.atgrace.com/events/legacy-grandparent-conference. Invite your favorite grandparents to this powerful weekend!
- OUTREACH- HELP NEEDED!
"Let us not love with words and speech, but in action and in truth." 1 John 3:18
Compass' focus on outreach continues to grow! In partnership with Grace Church Outreach, we are currently coordinating with area schools to provide free backpacks stocked with school supplies for students in need. These backpacks will be assembled early summer and delivered mid-August. We are also in the beginning stages of planning Big Serve projects in schools that will be completed on October 8th in a few Minnetonka and Eden Prairie schools. If you feel God leading you to be a part of these efforts to show the love of Christ to our schools by meeting their most basic needs please contact Mindy at firstname.lastname@example.org. Great family service projects!!
- RELIGIOUS LIBERTIES SEMINAR-MAY 22nd
FREE Compass Event coming up May 22nd! Join us!
Public School Parents and Educators!! As we saw in the God's Not Dead 2 movie, it is more important than ever that we understand our legal rights as Christians in the public schools. As these rights are challenged we need to be equipped to speak out in defense of our freedoms and guide our children to do the same. But what are these rights and how to they relate to our public school classrooms? Come review the basics from our Constitution and explore specific scenarios you may encounter in this environment. Learn how to respond with love and grace! Attend our upcoming "Religious Liberties Seminar for Public School Educators and Parents" on May 22, 12:30-2pm in M211 (enter through door #4) at Grace Church, Eden Prairie. Bring a bag lunch! RSVP to email@example.com. Free event! More details at www.compasslink.org/events.
